Zoning made the driveways long
Weddington's minimum lot sizes mean houses sit well back from the road on wooded acreage. The approach from the road to the house is often over a hundred feet, and on many properties it curves and changes grade on the way.
That is a bigger pour, a bigger base job and a more careful drainage plan than a suburban driveway, and it should be priced and built as one rather than as a very long version of a standard drive.
Where a long drive actually fails
Not in the middle. It fails where water crosses it, where the grade changes, and at the turnaround where vehicles stop and pivot on the same spot every day.
Those three locations get the attention: fall and a crossing detail where the water runs, extra base where the grade breaks, and more thickness where the turning happens. The straight sections in between are the easy part.
Finish matters more when the house is the reference
On a custom home the concrete is being judged against the stonework, the drive gates and the landscaping, so the joint layout, the edge lines and the consistency of the finish are the job rather than a detail of it.
That is also where stamped and colored work earns its cost here more often than elsewhere, on aprons, courtyards and pool surrounds rather than on the whole run.
